The plot is an alien life-form feeds on Earth's pollution;
Godzilla peruses it. Hedorah evolves the ability to transform between a flying saucer like creature and an upright more powerful form than before. Hedorah spreads a toxic gas throughout Japan, killing thousands. Humans discover that Hedorah can be defeated by drying it out. They construct giant electrodes to dry Hedorah out, Hedorah and Godzilla fight more in which Godzilla is overpowered. Hedorah is led to the electrodes where Godzilla rips Hedorah apart piece by piece allowing each piece to dry out. Hedorah makes one last attempt to escape. Godzilla pursues by literally flying.
Godzilla takes him back to the electrodes to where Hedorah is defeated for good.
Hedorah is the best new monster since Ghidorah. He actually is a challenge for Godzilla and has a very creative design.The human focus is on some kid who loves Godzilla. His father is attacked by Hedorah and discovers its weakness. This film contains many odd elements.
First there's science lessons about nebula's and nuclear reactions. They have something to do with the film; but are presented as if it was in a education show. There's odd animated sequences which I Have no idea what their purpose is. Definitely the most bizarre is when a guy starts tripping out in a club and hallucinates everyone has fish heads.
These element don't make any sense on why they're in the film. The highlight is Godzilla flying. This ability has never been displayed before and never used again. It's the biggest " WTF" moment of the whole series. Tonally, the film is confusing. The ridiculousness of the film wouldn't seem to appeal to adults. but images of people being reduced to skeletons can frighten younger children.
The film as a whole is just bizarre. I wouldn't call it one of the best of the series, but one of the most entertaining because it's so batshit crazy.
